FORMATION OF STATE MEDICINAL PLANTS BOARD
With a view to ensuring sustained availability and co-ordinate all matters relating to the development and sustainable use of medicinal plants and further with a purpose to formulate policies and co-ordinate all matters pertaining to Medicinal Plants Sector in the country and to create awareness about the sector by financing a numbers of projects for cultivation of Medicinal Plants, the Govt. of India constituted national level Nodal Body, called the National Medicinal Plants Board,(NMPB) in 2000
At the instance of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Department Govt of Odisha constituted “Medicinal Plants Advisory Board” for the state of Odisha March,2002 for the development of Medicinal Plants Sector in the state.

REGISTRATION OF STATE MEDICINAL PLANTS BAORD AS A SOCIETY:
The State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB),Odisha has been registered as a Society dated 07-01-2010. There are two bodies under this Society, one Governing Body under the Presidentship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha and another Executive Body under the Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, FE&CC Department, Govt of Odisha for management and operation.
CONSTITUTION OF NATIONAL MISSION ON MEDICINAL PLANTS DURING 2009-10.
During 2008-09, Government of India launched a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Mission on Medicinal Plants under 11th Plan with intention to provide financial assistance for activities like development of nurseries for Quality Planting Material (QPM), cultivation, processing, warehousing, marketing infrastructure etc. as well to promote the existing marketing mandis, setting up new herbal mandis, collections and dissemination of marketing information, certification, crop insurance and quality testing etc.
